The design for the two interconnected serviced apartments will each feature 1 bedroom, a bathroom, kitchenette, a dining area for four, a Japanese garden and yoga balcony, a study nook with a captivating window view, and a welcoming living room. The design theme is inspired by the harmonious blend of Japandi and Wabi Sabi aesthetics, promoting simplicity, tranquillity, and connection. A shoji door system serves as the pivotal element to facilitate connectivity between the two apartments to accommodate families and friends.
Apartment C & D
-
Bedroom: The bed is positioned to face the window, offering a captivating view of the Sydney Harbour, thanks to its angled orientation.
-
Bathroom: The bathroom sink is uniquely styled to cater the difference between the two apartments.
-
Kitchenette: Design a compact yet functional kitchenette with essentials.
-
Dining Area: Create a dining space within in the kitchen to allow more connection. Preparing the meal and then taking a few steps to the dining chairs preserves the warmth of the food.
-
Japanese Garden & Yoga Balcony: A serene outdoor area for relaxation and yoga practice. Next to a beautiful Japanese style pond.
-
Study Nook: A peaceful area for work or reflection with an inspiring window view.
-
Living Room: Design a comfortable and inviting space for relaxation and socializing, with the choice of being able to open to combine to two apartments. Thus allows the invitation to open space.
Shoji Door System:
-
The shoji door, inspired by Japanese design, connects the two apartments and can be opened like a sliding door.
-
The door serves to enhance connectivity between the apartments, enabling residents to interact and share the space as needed.
-
The shoji door is a key feature, facilitating flexibility and communal living, ultimately enhancing the guest experience.

Qiyun Boutique Hotel
Located in Hangzhou China
This boutique hotel serves as a wellspring of inspiration for my serviced apartment project. I'm particularly drawn to its innovative use of space, where areas like the dining room and living room seamlessly blend in an open floor plan, yet the living room maintains a sense of intimacy and seclusion. The interior style, reminiscent of the Japandi aesthetic, exudes a calming, relaxing ambiance, creating an inviting and serene retreat for guests whether they stay for a weekend, a week, or a month.
